Have you seen this? Apparently some people have captured screenshots of an Oprah page where votes appear to be receiving devious manipulation. From what I understand, this is the story: Oprah offered up the possibility to pretty much anyone to have their own reality show, and the short version is that a fellow with cerebral palsy named Zach Anner was strongly in the lead for a good while. Then, out of nowhere, Zach’s votes ACTUALLY WENT DOWN, while the votes for another contender named Dr. Phyllis rose to the tune of around 400,000 votes within only a couple of hours, while the view count for Dr. Phyllis only rose approximately 4,000 votes over the same time period.
I’ve seen screenshots around the Web, and it does indeed appear that the view counts and vote counts are grossly out of touch with each other. The entire thing reeks of some sort of devious manipulation by someone, and the dominant theory around the Internet…well, I have to preface this by explaining that I’m reporting “just the facts, ma’am” on this topic, but here’s what the Internet seems to think:
General consensus around the ‘Net is that “Oprah wants Dr. Phyllis to win because she’s a well-educated black woman, and Zach is just a white boy with cerebral palsy.”
I don’t necessarily buy into that philosophy (primarily because I’m a huge skeptic) but I can understand where it comes from and given the screenshots I’ve seen so far, I’m reluctantly inclined to agree that there may be a valid motive in that school of thought, despite how “racist” it sounds at first glance. (If it’s right, doesn’t that make Oprah the “racist” rather than the person who makes such an observation?)
Let me know what you think about this topic in the comments section below. If you have more information, feel free to post about it. Also, for a select few of you “in the know” that may read this, I just want to say ” hello /b/rothers!”
