[FIX] Toshiba Satellite C55-A5104, C55-A5180, etc. UEFI BIOS missing CSM boot option

Toshiba Satellite C55-A5104 (and possibly other C55 and C55t models) with a graphical INSYDE UEFI BIOS are missing the “Boot Mode” option under Advanced->System Configuration that allows switching from UEFI to CSM boot. There is an entire Toshiba forum thread full of disgruntled people talking about it.

The solution is simple: BIOS version 1.10 doesn’t have the option, but updating the BIOS to 1.30 adds it. Here’s a direct link.

Leave thanks in the comments. 🙂

    1. How do we update the Bios on a Toshiba satellite5 C55-A5180 with a Bios 1.10 installed. Finally figured out how to see Bios settings and moved ODD to the top of the list. Can not get the laptop to boot from the Bios 1.5 CD that was burned on another computer. Please email exact instructions on how to boot from the CD/DVD. Thanks

  1. hi I have the same problem to missing UEFI /CSM mode and the laptop message is { checking media or no bootable device} please how do I process to resolve the problem?

I tried download a bios and I flashed the bios after that when I power on the laptop the firmware is lost or crashed because on the screen I have only the toshiba logo on it and isn’t load at all. I changed the motherboard I have at home it’s the same thing both of the boards have the same problem, one missing the firmware after flashing it and the other one the bios version it’s 1.10 the low version causing issue of booting up. I don’t know what to do next because I don’t wish to loose the second motherboard like the first one. please I need help.

    1. If you get “no bootable device” it just means that either the hard drive isn’t being seen or the contents of the drive aren’t compatible with the boot method set in the BIOS. If it’s stuck at the Toshiba logo, I’d bet the hard drive is failing. Temporarily remove it and see if it goes past the logo.
